Mission Accomplished

My Second website is DONE! It feels so good! And i’m pretty happy with it too. It looks legititmate and well done. In my opinion. But, maybe i’m biased? I did some more CSS in this project than in my first one, and I feel alot more confident with it. I learned alot by doing this second website. I got to do rollovers and active states on my menu bar, and have buttons lead to many different places. I learned how to  use only one CSS style sheet but have it work for several different pages instead of having a different style sheet for each page like I was originally doing. And it was as giving different ID’s to my divs so it doesn’t mess things up and move things i don’t want moved.

Putting the whole project together was a good experience. From the planning of the business to sketching of ideas and hierarchys,  to the piecing it together and slicing. I definitely learned alot and though I may not know very much, or be completely HTML and CSS literate, I’ve definitely made big leaps forward in my knowledge of how it all works.

Home Stretch

Both the school year and the cafe website are nearly completely finished! It’s a good feeling knowing you’ve worked hard and put forth your best efforts to feel accomplished.

I’ve been working on the last step in the website over the past week. Spent alot of time trying to figure out all the code. I think i’ve got the html pretty much figured out. At least in order to do a simple project. The css is what is still a bit more tricky. Took me hours just to figure out simple operations, but once it was finally done I felt like I had learned alot. I’ve yet still to do the rollovers on our site. I have them created, I just need to implement them.

Hierarchy models

Well it’s come to the point where we have created hierarchy models for our website! My co-worker and I are so excited. We can visually see where it’s going and it’s going somewhere GOOD! We’ve picked our color scheme and have the design all laid out for all the pages. Our next step is getting our images and collecting all of our information. Then, it’s on to the actual designing!

I really enjoy all the preplanning that goes into creating a website. I like brainstorming and painting images in my head of what my final product will look like. I also enjoy surfing the web and getting inspired by different designs I find all over the place. It awakens my love of designing things every time!

Website Models

Recently i’ve been working on a new web design project. A friend and I are creating a fictional business and plan on creating a website for it. Because we are starting from the ground up there is alot of thought processing and planning that goes into it. So far we’ve been discussing what the purpose of our site will be, who our audience is, and how we will advertise our site. We’ve also been deciding on color schemes, layouts, and logos for the site/business. It’s been a fun project so far; figuring everything out from the ground up.

We were getting excited as we planned and wishing the site we were creating was for a real business. I think the site is going to turn out really good, and we’re really going to want to visit this “cafe!”

Floats

I’ve become slightly confused over the way to use floats in CSS.  I thought I understood it after the class tutorial last week, but as soon as I went to try it on my own to finish up my website and publish it, I was lost. I have the basic html all coded up and ready to go. I’m just stumped on the CSS at this point. I’ve been trying and reading different tutorials, but I’m still lost. I’m hoping and praying that tomorrow night at lab I can nail this down before it’s due Tuesday. Hopefully it’ll stick in my head and i’ll know it for future projects as well. Hopefully I’ll soon know at least basic html so I can be a little more independent.

Web Site Planning

When you first start out, you may not realize how much goes into creating a website. I’ve been creating just a simple website and it’s definitely no short process. Alot of thought has to go into the entire project. From talking to your client, sitemapping, brainstorming, figuring out how you’re going to meet certain criteria, designing, critiquing, and editing, it’s a full house project.

The website i’ve been working on has been a challenge. It’s supposed to be simple, not overwhelming, not too many buttons, and professional. However it seems like the “simple” aspect of it has been my obstacle. There isn’t too much information to be shared on the website, but there are alot of pages since everything needs be under different menus. The information is there. It’s just…dry. It needs spicing up. This is where I am stuck at at the moment. Hopefully I’ll have a light bulb moment soon and I’ll be able to move on! I’m most certainly learning along the way though.

Finding the beauty in the simple

Water. It can symbolize cleanliness. Purity. Renewal.

For me, most of the time, if I’m not partaking of some adventure in a body of water, I see art in water. When I see water I think of beauty. I see the crystallity of it, the color of it, or the reflections in it. Many people see simple things all around them every day such as water, and don’t see past the ordinariness of it. If we would look a little more carefully and take a little more time, we might see something beautiful in something simple. If we take the time to study it, we may realize different ways we can portray what we are seeing. If we take the time, we could make life a much more interesting, memorable, and inspiring place for ourselves and even those around us.
